Demisch Danant specializes in twentieth-century European design with an emphasis on the late 1950s through the 1980s. The gallery features the work of Maria Pergay, Pierre Paulin, Joseph Andre Motte, Pierre Guariche, Philippon & Lecoq, Rene Jean Caillette and Pentagon. The gallery also engages in a series of exhibitions concerning the intersection among architecture, design and art, including the work of Felice Varini and Krijn de Koning.
For Design Miami/ 2012, Demisch Danant will present the first show focused entirely on the works of French designer Pierre Guariche (1926 -1995). Displayed in two sections, this exhibition will present rare and significant works of 1950-1955 and 1958-1962, to highlight two distinct periods of the designer’s illustrious career.
Pierre Guariche was a designer and architect working in France in the 1950s and 60s and emerged as part of a younger generation of designers interested in exploring the potential of industrial production. Guariche produced a prolific amount of furniture and lighting in conjunction with his architectural designs, in an effort to craft a total living environment based on a distinctively modern aesthetic. He is widely renowned for his commissions of the 1950s, including a collection of lighting designed for Disderot, and for the iconic “Tonneau Chair” designed for Steiner in 1954.
